Have you ever had a quiet feeling that something was right for you, even when you couldn’t explain why?
Or perhaps you’ve experienced the opposite. You’ve tried to make a decision, but your mind was so busy analyzing, worrying, and questioning that you couldn’t tell what your intuition was trying to say.
Your intuition may already be communicating with you. The challenge can be creating enough space to hear it.
In this gentle somatic practice, Sara Raymond of The Mindful Movement guides you through movement, self-massage, breathwork, and meditation to help you settle, connect with your body, and practice listening to your inner wisdom.
Because sometimes, the answer isn’t found by thinking harder.
Sometimes, it begins with becoming quiet enough to listen.
What Is Intuition and How Can You Strengthen It?
In this practice, building intuition means learning to listen to the messages of your body and inner wisdom while becoming more receptive to the energy around you.
Sara explains that developing this connection begins with cultivating a sense of safety in the nervous system.
When we’re caught in survival mode or falling into deeply ingrained patterns designed to keep us safe, it can be difficult to distinguish an intuitive message from a habitual reaction.
Creating a calmer internal environment gives us an opportunity to listen differently.
And just like meditation, intuition is something we can practice.
You don’t have to force an answer or immediately understand every sensation. Instead, you can begin by creating space and becoming more receptive to what arises.
Begin by Creating Space in the Body
This somatic practice begins with a simple check-in.
You’re invited to sit comfortably, close your eyes if that feels supportive, and take a few deep, calming breaths.
From there, gentle movements through the pelvis, spine, rib cage, shoulders, neck, and head encourage a sense of spaciousness throughout the body.
There’s no need to perform these movements perfectly.
Instead, notice.
How does your spine respond?
Where do you feel tension?
Where might your body be asking for a little more attention?
The practice then moves into gentle self-massage around the jaw, face, temples, neck, and shoulders.
For many of us, these are familiar places to hold tension. Slowing down enough to notice and tend to them can become an act of listening in itself.
Your Body Is Always Giving You Information
Intuition doesn’t necessarily arrive as a loud, unmistakable voice.
Sometimes it’s subtle.
It may feel like a sensation in your body, an image, a feeling, a thought, or simply a sense of knowing.
But when the mind is busy or the body is holding stress, those quieter messages can be harder to notice.
This is why learning to recognize what safety and settling feel like in your own body can be so valuable.
Perhaps you notice your shoulders soften.
Your breathing becomes deeper.
Your jaw releases.
Your thoughts begin to slow.
You feel more present in the room and more connected to yourself.
There isn’t one correct way to experience this. Your relationship with your intuition is personal.
The invitation is simply to become curious about how you receive.
Ground Yourself Before You Listen
After creating space through movement and self-massage, the practice becomes quieter.
Sara guides you through a grounding visualization, imagining a cord extending from the base of your spine down through the ground and into the center of the earth.
You can imagine this cord as a two-way connection.
It gives you somewhere to release what you no longer need while allowing you to receive what supports you.
With each breath, imagine drawing energy upward through the base of your spine, your abdomen, ribs, heart, throat, and head.
Then breathe out completely.
Take in what you need.
Let go of what you don’t.
You may even imagine a healing light moving through your body, in whatever color naturally comes to you.
There is nothing you need to make happen.
Simply notice.
Practice Receiving Your Inner Wisdom
As your body settles and your conscious thinking mind begins to rest, allow yourself to listen.
You might ask:
What do I need to receive right now?
Then give yourself some silence.
Notice what you feel, sense, hear, or see.
Your mind will wander. That’s natural.
When it does, lovingly bring your attention back to receiving.
You don’t need to analyze every message as it appears. You don’t need to decide immediately whether something is “really” your intuition.
For now, you’re simply practicing the skill of listening.
That practice can help you become more familiar with your own inner language over time.
Intuition Is a Relationship You Can Keep Building
You don’t have to receive a profound insight every time you practice.
Some days may feel clear. Other days may feel quiet.
Both experiences are okay.
What matters is continuing to check in with yourself.
When you make space to settle, ground, breathe, and listen, you’re strengthening your relationship with your own inner experience.
And that relationship can support you when choices feel uncertain or old patterns begin pulling you away from what you know you need.
You can return to your breath.
You can return to your body.
You can return to listening.
Your intuition doesn’t have to shout to be worthy of your attention.
Sometimes, it simply needs enough quiet to be heard.
