“Our beliefs control our bodies, our minds, and thus our lives.”

― Bruce H. Lipton, The Biology of Belief: Unleashing the Power of Consciousness, Matter and Miracles

One of the most popular topics on our YouTube channel and our website is healing.  The Mindful Movement community frequently asks about alternative healing options.  While meditation and mindset practices do not replace the care of a medical professional, they are an extremely powerful and effective addition to the healing process.  Here at the Mindful Movement, we are an oasis where you can come to tap into your own inner peace, positive mindset, and the ability for self-healing.

The words you say, thoughts you think, and beliefs you have about yourself have the most incredible power to heal your mind and body.  Your body’s cells are in constant communication with each other and collectively they hear what you are thinking, saying, and believing about yourself.  Therefore, having positive thoughts and using positive words can create a healing environment for your cells to ignite your self-healing intelligence.

Your mind does exactly what it thinks you want it to do in order to stay alive.  If you aren’t aware of this, you may unknowingly be telling your mind something that you don’t want.  When you use negative words or ideas such as “this stress is killing me”, or “I am falling apart,” or “If I have to deal with this job for another day, I’ll die,” your mind will do whatever it can to stop you from experiencing this suffering and keep you alive.  That might show up as a migraine, the flu, or a chronic illness.  No matter how it happens, it forces you to stop what is causing the stress and rest.

The mind isn’t always logical when it tries to do what it thinks you want it to do.  So clearly, it doesn’t logically make sense that some part of you would develop migraines in order to keep you home from work.  Therefore, the more positive words you can tell yourself, the better!  Your words create a master plan for you to move towards every day and you have the choice of words you use.

“The mind is everything. What you think you become.” — Buddha

Positive affirmations can be a very beneficial addition to your meditation practice. The purpose of positive affirmations is to shift your attention toward thoughts that promote healing and growth. The goal here is to incorporate positive thinking on a subconscious level and turn from the negativity which we’ve slowly acquired. How can you get your positive affirmations to stick?

Practice Daily

Affirmations are most effective when practiced daily. Remember: your goal is to embody your affirmations on a subconscious level. This will take time! Set aside time each day to recite positive affirmations. Even 10 minutes is plenty! If you often forget to repeat positive affirmations, here are a few helpful tips:

  • Consider adding a daily recurring reminder to your smartphone
  • Write them down, take a picture and make it your lock screen
  • Write them on your bathroom mirror
  • Make a recording of your affirmations to listen to while you are exercising, cooking, doing laundry, etc. (do not listen while driving)
  • Make your top priority a password

Repeat Your Affirmations Aloud

Repeating your affirmations aloud is by no means required, but it helps many people relax and further embody their affirmations. If repeating them aloud is impractical for you, at least make sure you are repeating the affirmations in your head.

Choose the Right Environment

If possible, repeat your positive affirmations in a serene environment. Standing outside in the sunlight is a wonderful environment. If you can have contact with the ground in some way, it has a very grounding effect.  Inside is totally fine too, however! What is important is that you are free from distraction and at ease. Also, never meditate and drive!

Make Them Positive and Use Present Tense

Here is a few examples of positive affirmations we used in this healing practice:

  • My body is ready to heal
  • I am confident in my body’s ability to heal
  • I provide everything my body needs to heal
  • I can sense my body beginning to heal right now
  • I am feeling healthier everyday
  • I am providing the ingredients to heal my body everyday
  • My immune cells are full of vitality and ready to heal
  • My positive thoughts are facilitating my body’s healing process
  • I am instructing my cells with my positive thoughts

Additionally, here is an entire playlist of practices that contain affirmations:

Replace Negative Self Talk with Positive Affirmations

Negative thoughts tend to creep into one’s mind throughout the day. When this happens to you, make a conscious effort to replace these thoughts with your positive affirmations. It will not always be easy, but it’ll help you start to re-program your mind to think positively!

Rely on the Mindful Movement

Your beliefs drive your behaviors and support your wellbeing.  To change a behavior, all the will power in the world won’t out smart your beliefs.  Therefore, to change a behavior, you must change your belief that is driving that behavior.  And the first step is to uncover the specific belief that is the cause.

Working with a hypnotherapist can be a great way to heal from many physical and emotional issues. If you are new to the world of hypnosis and are interested in learning more, here is a self-healing hypnosis practice you can start with. If you commit to practicing hypnosis, positive beliefs can begin to imprint in your subconscious in as little as 21 days.

Hypnotherapy is an extremely powerful tool to support and improve your own healing journey.  If you decide you want to work one on one with a hypnotherapist, I’d love to help you!
