Discover Your Purpose:  Sara’s Story

“The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.”  ~Pablo Picasso

What would pausing to close your eyes, take a deep breath, and check in with your experience, tell you about yourself right now?

Connection and community:

In our current times, I often feel a lack of connection with others who don’t live in my household, and I know I am not alone on this feeling.  We are physically separated, yet we don’t have to let geographical boundaries keep us from making a connection.  The Mindful Movement recently celebrated the 4-year anniversary of publishing our first video.  I wouldn’t exactly call that the start of the community as we know it today, or even the business.  You see, I didn’t intend for this to be a business, and I certainly didn’t have any clue to depth and value this growing community would bring to me and so many others all around the world.  As I write this, we are approaching 450k subscribers on YouTube, a mind-blowing number for sure!  And although we are not physically in each other’s presence, I feel deeply connected to this growing, supportive community.

As we pass this business anniversary and I approach a birthday ending in 0 😬, I feel it is a good time for self-reflection.  I am also currently involved in a program in which my mentors asked me to consider my purpose. I have been thinking about this community, this business, and how I can continue to serve you and live my purpose.  So now’s the time to share my purpose and background with the Mindful Movement community in case you don’t know me.  I also hope this will open the doors to build connection, conversations, and community.

Getting to know Sara

If you have followed the Mindful Movement on YouTube or the other social media platforms, you likely have heard my voice guiding meditations, possibly followed a Pilates or Yoga practice with me, and likely have seen my face in  photos.  There are a small percentage of our audience who has even worked with one on one or in a small group.  No matter how you have come to know me, perhaps you have some more questions about who I am, what I believe, and how I got to where I am today.  I’d love to introduce myself if you are interested. (Additionally, stay tuned for an upcoming podcast episode when Les interviews me!)

When I was a child, I loved helping others.  My first job was as a babysitter and then I worked at the childcare center in a local gym.  I thought I wanted to be a pediatrician, helping children, but then college biology class had me change my tune. After that, I had jobs as a restaurant server, pre-school assistant teacher and kindergarten teacher.  All helping others.

This theme of helping others has followed me through my adult life as well.  Besides one of the greatest gifts of being a parent, I am a Pilates, Yoga and meditation teacher, mentor of teachers, and hypnotherapist.  But I have not always known and recognized that helping others is important to me and feeds my soul.

My Why's and My Purpose

In my early 30’s, I realized I was drifting through life aimlessly, doing what I thought I should be doing in my career and my confidence was lacking.  I was in the “I’ll be happy when…” phase, always searching for the next thing to be a better teacher, when a mentor (the same wonderful mentor asking me to explore my purpose more deeply now) asked me to consider why I teach.  She asked me to look deeper than the what and how I teach.  This was a turning point in my career and incidentally, my personal life. I believe this one question was the inspiration for the start of The Mindful Movement.

As I took the time to really get to know myself and my values through movement and meditation, I realized I needed to shift my beliefs about myself and clarify my values in order to move forward.  A lot of the “What’s” in my life stayed the same.  However, the “Why’s” and the “How’s” have developed and become richer.  I began to feel empowered, confident, and fulfilled.  And this is truly when The Mindful Movement came into being.

One other big shift centered around my experience with hypnotherapy which allowed me to uncover unconscious beliefs I had about myself that were holding me back.  Once these were uncovered, it gave me the power and freedom to change my beliefs about myself to a more positive perspective.

What would change if I told you I can help you shift the unconscious beliefs you have about yourself that are holding you back from being confident?

These two significant shifts in my life have pushed me to believe in myself and I am called to help others do the same.  I am honored and grateful every day to have the opportunity to teach and guide others to experience similar empowerment, confidence, and fulfillment.  Through self-healing movement practices and mindset shifts, I help others to develop a deeper understanding of themselves, to build confidence in their own body, and to feel safe and cared for.  When people seek me out because they are stressed, anxious or feel stuck, I help them build confidence and emotional freedom.

Some of WHAT I do:

Growing up, I played volleyball and enjoyed exercising which led me to practicing and studying Pilates and yoga and other forms of exercise.  Some of the “What’s” in my life now include co-owner at Coreworks Fitness Studio and The Mindful Movement. My technical trainings include Comprehensive Pilates instructor and Master Instructor with Balanced Body, 200 hour Registered Yoga Teacher, meditation teacher, and Hypnotherapist.  I bring the variety from my educational background to my teaching style and enjoy working with all levels of students and teachers in training.

I am fortunate to have the love and support in all that I do from my rock, chef, best friend, and husband of 17 years, Les.  Our daughter is 16 and son is 14 and since they seem to need less help from me these days, I have taken to caring for my now large collection of house plants, vegetable garden, 2 dogs, and 8 chickens.  Even in my hobbies I enjoy taking care of people, plants and animals.

“The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.”  ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

I’d love to know if you have considered YOUR purpose.  How would your life improve if you were living your purpose?
